PRESS RELEASE

A former House of Assembly member and Secretary-General of Ibibio Elders Forum, Hon. Emmanuel Akpanobong, has described the reaction of Atuekong Don Etiebet to media reports credited to Ata Ikiddeh and other online media publishers as apt.

Ata Ikiddeh and Ibommobile News, an online news medium, had alleged through their social media write ups that the elder statesman (Don Etiebet) met with President Muhammadu Buhari and mounted pressure on him to replace the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, with the 2015 gubernatorial aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Umana Umana, which Don Etiebet has dismissed as false and unfounded.

Dr. Akpanobong who is the renowned medical practitioner in the state and Managing Director of St. Athanasius Hospital, Uyo, noted that the reaction and clarification made by Chief Don Etiebet on the reports is very necessary.

Akpanobong who made the statement through a press release asserted that; “I think this reaction and clarification by Chief Don Etiebet is very apt. We must all admonish ourselves not to be carried away by the excitement of competitive politics to smear and pull down the few nationally acclaimed leaders of our state.

“We need the collective efforts of all those who by providence have the national reach to fight and bring development to our state. We must admit that elections are over.

“We should all see the men and women in the various offices as our representatives through whom we can access government and governance. For instance, there is no reason why a PDP senator should not be favourably disposed to discuss with and take inputs from an APC or other political party member(s) in matters that can improve the lots of our state.

“Times are really hard. Our people are suffering. Let us join hands to fight and bring the needed sucour,” he concluded.

Signed

Hon. Dr Emmanuel Akpanobong, DMP
