The vehicles conveying Akwa Ibom state delegates to the just concluded factional PDP’s national convention in Port Harcourt have reportedly involved in a ghastly auto-crash, leading to two of the delegates reportedly unconscious.
According to eye-witness account, the accident happened somewhere around Mkpat Enin local government area at about 10am today.
Radar newspaper learnt that the buses conveying the delegates back from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, this morning, were in a convoy, when the driver of a Hiace Bus with Akwa Ibom State Government plate number which conveyed two former state lawmakers; Obong Usenobong Akpabio and Obong Saturday Akpan, Uruan and Ukanafun respectively, had reason to apply a sudden break in the convoy.
Radar’s account has it that the Hiace Bus which was closely followed by a Coastal Bus conveying about 27 delegates, some of which were senior citizens of Akwa Ibom including the likes of Chief Michael Afagidi and Obong Otu Robert hit the bus from behind causing serious damage to it.
Our eye-witness said that the two former lawmakers who were the only passengers in the AKSG Hiace Bus were said to be unconscious at the accident scene and were rushed to unknown hospital for treatment. While the driver of another coastal bus that had the Paul Ekpo-led PDP exco, still in the convoy, quickly reversed and ran into the bush to safe the lives of his passengers. We gathered that the wise decision of the driver safe the situation as no one sustain any serious injury in the coastal bus.
But many passengers in the coastal bus that hit the AKSG Hiace Bus sustained various degree of injuries.
When Radar newspaper contacted the state publicity secretary of the party, Comrade Ini Ememobong, on phone this evening, he confirmed the accident, saying that there was a slight collusion of the buses, but added that; “everyone involved in the accident is conscious.”
When asked specifically about the situation of the former lawmakers, he assured Radar that he had spoken to Usenobong Akpabio and Saturday Akpan and both men are conscious and healthy.
