Press Statement

Umana’s Deputy Threatens to Quit APC: A Rebuttal.

Global Pilot, a newspaper in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State carried a report with the above caption.

It is one of those stories that no one should react to; because in parts and in whole, it is the figment of the imagination of the reporter or his sponsor(s). Every line of the report is false, and deserves no dignity which a refuttal may confer on it.

However, at times like now silence cannot be golden. Let me therefore discharge my right to be heard, by putting myself on record for posterity vis-à-vis the report, which I insist is false in its entirety.

This is it: I am not planning to defect. APC is my party. I have also never, whether publicly or privately, condemned President Muhamadu Buhari, because he has not done anything wrong. By the way, it is even unfortunate to suggest that Oro people are unhappy with the President. This is 2016, not 2018. There’s still time for the President to accommodate Oro, and Akwa Ibom and indeed all Nigerians.

Finally, thank you for this opportunity to restate my loyalty to Mr. President, and my party, All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the leadership of the party in Akwa Ibom under my principal Mr. Umana Okon Umana. As for NDDC MD Designate, Obong Nsima Ekere; he is ours. We are together.
This shall be my last word on this matter. God bless Nigeria!
Engr. (Chief) Ben Ukpong, FNSE
