In a colourful ceremony witnessed by thousands of members and well wishers, the Afaha Youth Association Worldwide on Friday August 19, 2016 in Eket inducted Brigadier General Anthony Etukudo (Rtd) as its grand patron.
The induction, spearheaded by Eket and Esit Eket Chapters of the Association has gone into record as a milestone of achievement for the group bearing in mind the quality of patrons and personalities in its fold.
In his opening address, the chapter Chairman of Eket and Esit Eket of the organization, Elder Victor Okon Edukere said the choice of Brigadier General Anthony Etukudo (Rtd) as grand patron was informed by his track record of performance and service to the nation.
“Having seen your track record of performance and service to the nation, state and the Ekid nation, we deem it necessary to reach out to you as a great leader and achiever whose contribution to the nation is immeasurable”, Obongiwaad Edukere said.
The Afaha Youth Chapter leader paid glowing tribute to the late Paramount Ruler of Eket, Dr. Nathaniel J. Oduenyi who he said was the architect and conceptionist of the organization four years ago.
He enunciated the vision and mission of the group to include, the reunification of the youths of Afaha Worldwide vis-à-vis the development of Ekid nationality and to motivate and encourage members to devote greater part of their interest and concern towards the development of Afaha Clan and the nation through culture, economic self reliance, commerce and industry.
Elder Edukere said the organisation is poised to correct the wrongs in the society where youths no longer give respect and honour to their elders and leaders.
Succinctly put, the youth leader said the group has given itself the mandate to sensitize youths on the need for hardwork, respect, moral resuscitation, advocacy and obedience to constituted authorities.
He appealed on the inductee to use his wealth of knowledge in assisting the organization achieve its lofty ideals.
Also speaking, the international President of Afaha Youths, Obongiwaad Akwa Afaha, Chief Inyang Assam extolled the qualities of the inductee and described him as “the great eagle of Afaha Clan” while inducting him with the robes of office with the traditional title of “UTIN IKANG AFAHA”.
Various speakers including Chief Koffi Itiat, Elder Okon Johnson, the vice chairman of Afaha Youths; Hon. David Otu, Deaconess Adiaha Okon-Nkwo and among others paid glowing tributes to Brigadier General Anthony Etukudo (Rtd) for his outstanding qualities which merited him the National Honour of ‘Order Of the Niger’ (OON).
Responding, General Etukudo accepted the new responsibility reposed on him by the youths, himself a native of Afaha Eket in Afaha Clan.
He charged them not to dent the image of the clan through negative actions and to always seek advice from him in any issue that affects the collective interest of the State and Country.
