NEWLY inaugurated Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Nsima Ekere, yesterday, promised that the commission will be restructured and returned to its core mandate particularly in the area of regional development and integration.

Nsima Ekere Ekere who spoke during the inauguration of the new NDDC board in Abuja, said the new team will “work with other partners to create a new narrative for the NDDC.”

The NDDC boss also pledged that his team will not only be innovative and efficient but will also be transparent, prudent and dedicated in the discharge of its function.

He said that a new way of doing things was imperative in the commission in the face of challenges like nose-diving of revenue due to to low international oil prices and insecurity, unemployment and youth restiveness.

Ekere said the new board will also focus on ecological management and healthcare services, engage stakeholders and development partners, human capital development, youth engagement and development of the non-oil sector to attract new industries to the region.

On his part, the board chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, promised that the board will ensure a total and holistic development of the Niger Delta region by turning the challenges into opportunities He gave an assurance that the board will work within the law establishing the commission.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Usani, who inaugurated the board, charged the members to ensure probity and service delivery.

He described the commission as the most challenging federal government agency below the status of a ministry. The Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Professor Cladius Daramola, in his remarks urged the board to work within the law, improve the welfare of staff and the lots of committees within region.

The immediate past Managing Director of NDDC, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said she was certain that Mr Ekere and his team will deliver on their assignment, stressing that the was a group of tested professionals.
