The Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political, Legislative and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. Ekong Sampson, has cleared the air over negative media reports trailing the Governor’s speech during the state’s 2017 Solemn Assembly held at Ibom Hall grounds on Monday, January 2, 2017.
The governor has been widely reported as referring to his critics as “idiots” while addressing the people of the state at the function. But his Special Adviser who spoke exclusively to Radar Newspaper, yesterday, in Uyo, said that the governor was contextually misunderstood by the media.
His words; “It is unfair that the governor was contextually misrepresented and misunderstood while speaking at the Solemn Assembly in Ibom hall. He did not refer to Akwa Ibom people as “idiots”. I was present at the event. The governor is a Christian and a democrat. He has shown mature accommodation for divergent opinion. However, criticisms must be objective and not mischief driven.”
He noted that the ruling political party in the state, the PDP, will continue to work hard to maintain its victory in the state in 2019, saying; “with the confidence that Akwa Ibom people have shown the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration by lining up behind him on a daily basis, the future of the state is very bright.”
He asserted that Governor Emmanuel is doing well and his commitment to industrialisation of the state is already yielding fruits for all to see.
“Public confidence in Governor Udom Emanuel’s leadership is growing steadily. Akwa Ibom people have shown that he can be trusted with the leadership of the state.
“He has laid solid foundations for his re-election by his numerous projects within the short period of his administration so far. For example, roads are being constructed across the state. The industries are coming up thereby, opening huge employment opportunities for our teeming youths in the state.
“He is working very hard to diversify the flanks of the economy. Akwa Ibom people are demonstrating confidence in his leadership. That can be attested to by the immense and enthusiastic crowd that turn out at state functions with the governor. And there is a general upbeat mood in the state, because of the prospects of the industrialisation programmes of the government. This is a great sign of confidence and love that Akwa Ibom people have shown to the governor.
“The governor runs a focused administration from inception. Salaries have been paid promptly to show his respect and love to our workers. He is a labour friendly governor. Even outside Akwa Ibom state, Governor Udom Emmanuel is seen as a shining symbol of good governance.
“As a Bureau, we will work for the unity of Akwa Ibom people and ensure that water is available in the state for the people; we will work to straighten bonds of unity and love among our the people and the larger national pluralities. I will use the Bureau is a bridge building institution.
“Akwa Ibom state belongs to all of us, so I appeal to all of us to join hands with governor Udom good intentions to move the state forward irrespective of political party leaning,” the Special Adviser appealed.
