The commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Iniobong Essien has disclosed the readiness of the ministry to begin a door -to -door waste evacuation operation within Uyo capital city.
The commissioner made the disclosure recently during the year 2017 budget defence at Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly complex.

Presenting the 2017 estimate of the ministry, Dr. Essien, while lamenting that the 2017 budget allocated to the ministry was grossly inadequate for the ministry to carry out its enormous work effectively, said that the 2017 budget estimate for the ministry is 2 billion naira, only.
He said that the ministry intends to provide amongst other things, construction of permanent dump site at Ntak Inyang in year 2017.
Dr. Essien, while expressing hope that the ministry will do well in terms of revenue generation this year, noted that the ministry was able to generate 10 million Naira in year 2016.
Responding, the chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, urged the ministry to see the need to prioritise important things in their 2017 budget estimate, in order, to avert over stretching of the Fiscal year budget size.
“I want to urge you to see the need that the environment is not polluted, the ministry should set a parameter to advise the government where there is oil spillage, as well as, look into areas where there is erosion, so that the affected community is not cut off,”. Hon. Akpanusoh advised.
