The newly appointed chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Otuekong Enobong Uwah, has stated that he has given approvals to more than 400 building plans in the state since his appointment into the agency about two weeks ago by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
He made the disclosure while playing host to the publisher of Radar Newspapers and The Admin of Radar WhatsApp Group, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, in his UCCDA office today.
Uwah noted that he has removed the bureaucratic bottlenecks from the processes of obtaining Building Plan approvals from the UCCDA and ensure that every application is treated and approved within two weeks. He, therefore, called on members of the public who intended to build and those who had built without approvals by UCCDA to come for the approvals of such structures.
“UCCDA has already issued a 60 days public notice to members of the public who have already existing structures in the state capital without approvals by UCCDA to come and regularise their structures with the authority within the stated period of time to avoid embarrassment by the agency.”
He vowed to sanitise the UCCDA and transform the agency to carry out its duties in conformity with the Mr Udom Emmanuel’s administration in the state.
Uwah asserted that before he took over as chairman of the agency, the morale of workers was very low occasioned by their working environment, stating that that also contributed to slowing down a lot of things in the UCCDA. He said he has started changing the working environment by painting the offices; changing the bad doors, fixing of fans and replacing faulty lighting systems as well as tiling the floor of the offices, in order, to have a befitting office complex for the agency.
He said there are about 200 workers in UCCDA with no sufficient office accommodation for them. He said he was putting in place a Front Office system where there will be Engineers, Architects, Town Planners, to always assess every building plan at the first instance, as a measure to facilitate the processes.
He said his vision is to have UCCDA that fast tracks approvals of building plans in the state with little or no bureaucratic bottlenecks which he met at the agency.
