The one week warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on February 16, 2018, has crippled academic activities at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Branch Chairman, Dr. Aniekan Brown said that the union at a meeting held on Tuesday, January 18, 2018, with the national executives resolved that members of the union should embark on a one-week warning strike action with effect from Wednesday, February 18, 2018.
He, however, added that the declaration of the strike action by the branch was in line with the National Executive Council (NEC) directives.
The lecturers have abandoned lecture rooms at the Uniuyo town campus, its annex and the main campus of the University since the beginning of the first semester in compliance to the directive. Students were seen in groups discussing about the disruption of their academic activities by the strike.
