RESIDENTS of Ikot Obio Atai in Urua Ekpa Community, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have raised alarm over the imminent danger posed to people’s lives and property by the fallen high tension cable belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Fortunately, the high tension cable was said to have fallen around 2am of Wednesday, July 11, 2018, when inhabitants were sleeping.
Dr Isaac Bassey, a resident, who spoke with our Correspondent, noted with dismay how the appropriate authority had feign ignorance about the fallen high tension cable and other electricity wires, resulting in abandonment of the area by the entire community for fear of being electrocuted.
All though non was seen by our Correspondent, Dr Bassey, alleged that many animals and livestock had already been electrocuted by the collapsed electricity installations.
He, therefore, warned that if no urgent action was taken by the Electricity providers concerning the collapsed electricity installations, human lives, too, could be endangered.
“Many animals have been electrocuted by this recklessness and we are afraid it can extend to humans,” he said.
He accused the Transmission Company of negligence, saying they are more interested in collecting bills.
According to another resident, Usenmfon Ibanga, “the company should be ready to take full responsibility in the event that any unfortunate incident happens.”
Efforts to speak with Transmission Company officials in the state proved abortive as no one was ready to comment on the matter.
