The Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, has attributed the overwhelming support he has enjoyed so far in his quest for the Hilltop Mansion to the grace of God.
Speaking at the end of the annual convention of the Christ Believers (Evangelical) Mission in Uyo on Sunday, Ekere stated that he has clearly seen the exhibition of God’s grace in the smooth sail of his governorship quest since he began some months ago.
“Today in Akwa Ibom State, the entire political class is united that change must come to Akwa Ibom State,” he said. “Some people may not know that it is the agenda of God they are following. The Bible makes me know that power belongs to God and He gives it to whoever He chooses.”
Ekere condemned the rate of poverty and unemployment in the state, insisting that “there is absolutely no reason why the people should be this poor in a state that collects the highest allocation in the country.”
He reasoned that if 10 per cent of the revenue of the state was deployed to fighting poverty, the standard of living of the people would have significantly improved.
Ekere traced his relationship with the Prelate of the church, Apostle Patrick Jerome, in the last seven years, describing him as a selfless, consistent and dedicated man of God.
“I thank God for meeting this great man of God,” he declared.
In his sermon, Jerome decried the continuing idolatry in the state, vowing that his church will not stop praying until all 119 gods in the state were wiped out.
The cleric revealed that he was convinced in his spirit that Ekere was on a divine mission to change the state.
Said he: “I learnt in my spirit that God has sent this man to Akwa Ibom State. Obong Nsima Ekere is the kind of politician we have been praying for over the years. He is baptized in the Holy Spirit. He speaks in tongues. He is very humble. If God has need of him, there is no power that can stop him. This is a man of God, a politician that is a prayer warrior, s politician that loves the Lord. There is something that God wants to bring out of this man. The spirit of the Living God will stand behind you.”
The highlight of the service was the presentation of a symbolic staff of office to Ekere by Jerome.
