Rotary Club Uyo Metropolis District 9142 Installs 13th President

The Rotary Club’ of Uyo Metropolis District 9142 have installed her 13th President. She is Rotarian Dr Ndifreke Inwang, whose installation ceremony was held on Saturday, August 31st at the Judiciary Multipurpose Hall, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.
Presenting her maiden address as President of Rotary Club Uyo Metropolis, Rotarian Inwang who is a Paul Harris Fellow, PHF, thanked God Almighty and Rotarians for the honour done her.
She explained that, Rotary brings together a network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges, that Rotary through decades of commitment and hard work with their partners have facilitated the Adminstration of oral polio vaccine to more than 2.5 billion children globally.
While counting on the support of members to enable her succeed in piloting the affairs of the Rotary Club Uyo metropolis, Dr Inwang listed projects to be undertaken for the year to include, Basic Education and Literacy, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Community Economic Development, Maternal and Child Health, Peace Building and Conflict Prevention as well as Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
Earlier in his valedictory speech, the immediate past President, Rotarian Dr Cyril Essien congratulated the new President on her installation as the Club’s 13th President.
Rotarian Essien said he feels fulfilled seeing the Rotary Club making efforts to make the world a better place for all. He thanked his family and members for their support during his tenure and wished his successor a great term in office.
The chairman of the Installation ceremony and former Legislator representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. (Dr) Ekaette Ebong Okon, in her remarks described Rotarian Dr Ndifreke Inwang as an amiable and outstanding personality very deserving of the recognition and elevation given her selfless services and dedication towards making the community and society a better place.
Dr Okon expressed confidence that, the epoch making event will inspire greater accomplishments and positive impact on the society by the club.
Rotarian Inwang, a native of Ibiaku Uruan in Uruan in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is a second generation Rotarian whose parent’s, Rtd. Hon. Justice and Barrister (Mrs) Enefiok Udoh, both of who were past Presidents of Rotary Club of Uyo Metropolis.
She obtained her Doctor of Optometary in 2004 from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Abia State University, Uturu, Okigwe and thereafter went through a very intensive but successful training in orthoptics in the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital to become an Orthopist.
She is a Principal Optometrist /Orthopist with the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
High point of the event was the presentation and installation of the President and administration of Oath of Office which followed an earlier conferment of the Gold Service Award , namely, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, Assistant Director, Civil Litigations Department, Ministry of Justice, Barrister (Mrs) Emem Ette, business mogul and Elder Ubong Obot (a. k. a. Ubotex).

Rotarian Sam Uko was not lacking in humanitarian and charity work as the sum of 100,000 Naira was donated to Esther Sunday Udom for Medical treatment, another sum of 20,000 Naira to Mrs Comfort, two grinding machines to two widows, while a total of 50,000 Naira was paid to Loreto Girls Juniorate to carter for the school fees of an orphan.
In his Goodwill Message, Rotarian Uko congratulated the new President and charged her to sustain and reinforce the the universal objective of Rotary which is to advance and improve the quality of life for human kind.
Other activities that marked the installation ceremony include, the Parade of Flags, induction of 2019/20 Board of Directors and new members, Installation Lecture by PDG ijeoma Pearl Okoro and presentation of Awards to Awardees among others.
