WHERE ARE THE UDOM EMMANUEL FOOT SOLDIERS?
By Franklyn ISONG
The members of the state executive council have already spent close to six months in their respective ministries. But not much is heard of either their performances or the performance of their boss, the governor through them.
Apostle Paul in the Holy Book of Romans 1:6 asserted: “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ…”
If Udom Emmanuel’s foot soldiers (cabinet members) are not ashamed of the governor’s performance in office, why are they not engaging the masses, their constituents through town hall meetings, constituency briefings and other formal and informal ways of interactions in order to market the achievements of the governor?
It is really sad and disturbing that anywhere you go to within and outside the State, you hear people discussing the achievements of this administration in hushed tones, even by his cabinet members. Why is this happening to Udom Emmanuel?
Meanwhile, the governor speaking during the swearing in of his exco members on July 11, 2019, at the Banquet Hall, Uyo, charged them to among other things;
“let your loyalty after God Almighty, be for the love of Akwa Ibom State,” saying that, “a lot of people take decisions without caring what happens to the State. Our first service, should be to the state. Don’t do something just for self-aggrandizement as Commissioners.”
Udom’s exco is made up of 19 commissioners and 2 Special Advisers. But sad to say that exception of four commissioners namely: Mr. Akan Okon – Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport; Mr. Nsikan Linus Nkan – Finance; Ephraim Inyangeyen – Works, and Prof. Nse Essien – Education, the rest are either ashamed of the gospel of their master (Udom Emmanuel’s) performance or they do not believe in him.
I can forgive the governor for not blowing his trumpet, but I will not spare his foot soldiers for not showcasing the successes of this government especially in their respective MDAs.
The era of hiding under the excuse of being Press-shy has gone. The expectations from the Udom’s government are high. Akwa Ibom public should be engaged on the performance of not just Udom but his administration through his foot soldiers.
It is truism that only failed public officeholders who have nothing to show as achievements, would hide under the press-shy excuses.
For those I have mentioned in this piece as engaging the media, the people and their constituents, to whom much is given, much is expected. I expect regular of such from you! Continue to interact with the masses through any way possible in order to tell the achievement story of the Udom’s administration.
Akwa Ibom people deserve the best from the leadership and government of the State.
A word is enough for the wise!
