The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Akwa Ibom State Branch, has lauded Akwa Ibom State Government for building and commissioning a 300-bed Isolation Centre, instead of setting up some temporary structures in its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the State. We also commend the government for the Polymerase Claim Reaction (PCR) Laboratory located in the Ituk Mbang Isolation Centre, where critical tests, including COVID-19 and other infectious diseases would be carried out. That is forward thinking.
According to a Press Statement,
the Secretary to State Government and Chairman of COVID-19 Committee in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem mentioned that a second laboratory, donated by Stanbic-IBTC Bank and Inoyo Toro Foundation is also ready. This is a good news. CLO commends Stanbic-IBTC Bank and the Inoyo Toro Foundation for supporting the fight against the pandemic.
CLO urges the administrators of the facilities to ensure their judicious use, and regular maintenance so that the populace could derive maximum benefits from them.
CLO calls on the State government to embark on regular training and retraining of our health personnel to keep them abreast of modern trends in the operation of these equipment and other medical equipment across the State.
CLO appeals to other corporate organisations and well placed individuals to emulate Stanbic-IBTC Bank and the Inoyo Toro Foundation by donating medical facilities to the State in order to boost our health sector.
