The forthcoming chairmanship election in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area promises to be historic because of the quality of aspirants who are jostling for the coveted seat.
Among these array of stars is young entrepreneur, educationist, ICT expert, Philanthropist and Consultant, Mr Ekanem Brown.
Mr Brown is a public spirited individual whose love for his people cannot be questioned. For a man of his age to invest in key sectors of the economy and employing one hundred and twenty persons shows how focused and visionary he is. He has indeed added value to the national and state economic and craves for an opportunity to use his Midas touch to turn Mkpat Enin into a strong and commercially viable Local Government Area. Listening to the story of how he built his business from the scratch into a successful and growing conglomerate, easily convinces the worst of pessimists that he indeed can turn things around if given an opportunity by Mkpat Enin people.
Born on 11th September, 1977, this handsome looking serial entrepreneur started his academic career at Army Transferred Primary School, Jos, Plateau State. Upon the completion of his primary education, he returned home and proceeded to Community Secondary School, Mkpat Enin.
Being a forward looking young man, he sought for and obtained admission to study Physics Electronics at the University of Calabar, Cross River State. After obtaining his first Degree, he went ahead to obtain a Post Graduate Degree in Management (PGDM) from Benue State University. In addition to these, he attended the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Science and Technology which culminated in his induction as Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Science and Technology (ANIST).

He has also acted as agent for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his Ward in several elections, including the one through which Deacon Udom Emmanuel emerged the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Dream for Mkpat Enin Local Government Area:
Mr Brown is passionate about the development of his Local Government Area and the general well being of the people. He recalls with nostalgia the glorious days of the likes of Chief Richard Umoren (aka, Tractor-Moren) during which infrastructures were provided for the people to enjoy. He laments that several years on, the people still depend on these old infrastructures even though they are decaying.
He regrets that negative tendencies like misappropriation of public funds, primitive accumulation and “get rich quick” syndrome have replaced the time tested virtues of selfless service, hard work, honesty and prudent management of resources.
He believes that the ugly trend can be reversed if a responsible government can be elected to run the affairs of the Council. He also believes he can lead that positive leadership revolution which will be anchored on selfless service, prudent management of resources, infrastructural development, human empowerment etc.
Specifically, he wants to achieve the following:
(1) Re-unite the divided Mkpat Enin people; (2) Strengthen the infrastructural base of the Local Government Area; (3) Key into Governor Udom Emmanuel’s passion for economic development through the ongoing construction of Ikot Usop -Ikot Edehe Road; (4) Create development urban centres in Mkpat Enin urban, Ikot Akpaden and Ikot Ekpaw to fast track the spread of development across the Local Government Area; (5) Reposition the youths through sensitization and empowerment programme to enable them participate in Governor Udom Emmanuel’s industrial revolution which includes the establishment of a coconut refinery in Mkpat Enin; (6) Stamp out cultism and other vices by engaging the youths in meaningful ventures; and (7) Boost the economy of the area through active participation in and stimulation of Agro business ventures among others.
There is absolutely no argument about the quality of Mr Brown’s programmes nor is there questioning of his pedigree. Only time will tell if he can bring his successful and rich private sector-pedigree to bear in pulling Mkpat Enin Local Government Area out of the woods.
